AI likely to displace jobs, says Bank of England governor

BBC News

The widespread adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is likely to displace people from jobs in a similar way seen during the Industrial Revolution, the governor of the Bank of England has said. Andrew Bailey said the UK needed to have the training, education, [and] skills in place so workers could shift into jobs that use AI. He told the BBC Radio 4's Today programme people looking for a job would find securing employment a lot easier if they had such skills. However, he warned that there was an issue with younger, inexperienced professionals finding it difficult to secure entry-level roles due to AI. We do have to think about, what is it doing to the pipeline of people?

Artificial intelligence could increase foreign espionage, displace jobs without proper guardrails, experts say

FOX News

Fox News host Steve Hilton delves into ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence program that could have major implications for writing-focused jobs on'The Next Revolution.' Quickly evolving artificial intelligence technologies like ChatGPT could increase cyberattacks from foreign countries and displace workers in the U.S. labor force, highlighting the need for new skills and training among American students and workers, according to experts. Netra AI CEO Don Horan noted that artificial intelligence could be used to generate malicious code quickly by removing the algorithms' intended controls and creating content outside the authorized purview. He said that foreign acts can utilize tools like ChatGPT to improve espionage and accelerate elicitation, a process wherein a perpetrator gets to know a subject very well by gathering information and creating "the profile of a human being." This information is then used to force people to comply with their intended mission.

Will AI create or displace jobs?

#artificialintelligence

A new report by PwC found that artificial intelligence (AI) won't displace jobs. Instead, it will create them! According to the report, 7.2 million jobs could be created over the next 20 years, a slight edge on the 7 million job losses also predicted in the report. "Artificial intelligence is a relatively new technology, and this unfamiliarity can cause people to feel uncertain about it," said Adam Maskatiya, General Manager, UK & Ireland at Kaspersky Lab. "There is a massive wealth of opportunity with the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in terms of the jobs it will create, but there is also the need to ask some searching questions – and to consider some of the operational difficulties of AI in use, as well as the ethical and legal issues as to who bears responsibility for the actions of an autonomous or intelligent machine."

Why we need diversity before AI takes over » Banking Technology

We hear a lot about how artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to displace jobs, especially those held by women in tech, but should we also worry about a future overrun with sexist, racist machines? This article was written by Sarah Thomas, director, Women in Comms, and first published by Light Reading (Banking Technology's sister publication). It's not hard to envision, unfortunately. If AI is not designed to reflect all types of individuals, but rather only the white men who are writing the algorithms, that might be the scenario we end up with. First the threat to jobs is real, and it's weighted more heavily towards women.
